About Us

For over 25 years FOCUS has been a trusted resource for Hong Kong parents, educators and medical professionals seeking to learn how to better support the academic and social lives of children with mainstream learning differences. FOCUS aims to improve educational and life outcomes of children with AD/HD and SpLD by expanding understanding and raising awareness of what it means to have a mind that learns differently
Our Story

FOCUS began as a parent support group in 1990 and registered as a charity in 1997 becoming the first Hong Kong-based non-profit organization dedicated to improving the education of children challenged by Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD)

The Mission

Our mission is to improve the education of mainstream students who are challenged by Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) by providing accurate evidence-based information, practical strategies and support to parents and professionals in education and healthcare and by improving understanding of how learning differences impact youth both emotionally and academically.

What we believe

A research-based approach to learning support and education, combined with a collaborative relationship between parent and school are the most effective means to help students reach their full potential.

Chairman's Message

Mrs. Cheryl Raper

Since our founding in 1990, awareness of learning differences has greatly expanded.  We used to hunt for good information and now we filter. What hasn't changed is our commitment to providing accurate, research-backed information you can trust. On these pages we have brought together what FOCUS believe are the most accurate sources of educational and medical information relating to SpLD and ADHD because education is an important first step to being able to support and advocate for our children.

Despite our excitement about our upgraded website and new Facebook page, we understand these efforts are only complementary to our main business of creating opportunities for parents and educators to come together to learn and share experiences related to the parenting and teaching of children with learning differences.

If you are reading this, I hope you have been positively impacted by our programs or perhaps some information you found on these pages and that you will consider supporting FOCUS through membership, volunteering or by donating. There is always so much more we would like to do.
