Event: [Spring 2014] "Read Naturally" Reading Program

A remedial reading program offered by F.O.C.U.S. especially designed for SLD and/or AD/HD students to improve their reading proficiency, beginners to grade 8 readers.

THE READ NATURALLY PROGRAM AND STRATEGY AT F.O.C.U.S.

READ NATURALLY is a research-based program that supports the five essential components of reading - phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension - to address the needs of a broad range of at-risk-readers.

READ NATURALLY at F.O.C.U.S. follows a teacher-led format that utilizes highly individualized instruction and close monitoring, in a sturctured environment. The sequenced leveled curriculum is delivered via laptops with headphones to help students maintain their focus. Apart from tackling reading fluency and comprehension, spelling and writing are also important area of development. For students experiencing mild decoding problems, additional phonics leveled readings may be supplemented. We take into account the varying skills and abilities of each learner, and we implement tasks and activities that further enable the student to reach preset goals as well as to progress through the reading levels at their own pace with greater ease and confidence. At F.O.C.U.S., the sessions are conducted in small groups, maintaining a teacher-to-student ratio of 1:3, to maximize the benefit and support for each student.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Students aged 6-14 with AD/HD and/or SLD, beginners to Grade 8 students.
  • Students who struggle with reading
  • Students who are somewhat behind their average age reading level
  • Students who have trouble comprehending the text and/or
  • Students who have decoding issue

WHY SHOULD YOUR CHILD ATTEND?

Effective remedial reading support can address and improve reading difficulties among children and youngsters. Some children, including those with Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD) and/or AD/HD, may need more intensive instruction and opportunities for practice than normally achieving readers to learn to read well. Providing intensive help as early as possible is essential because reading difficulties often become more challenging to remediate over time. READ NAURALLY at F.O.C.U.S. aims to move them from "Learning to Read" on to "Reading to Learn".
